98 Ford Expedition XLT Factory Radio Wires
The Vehicle I worked on contained a factory radio with a 6cd changer installed within the center console. I assume it had a built in amp with a 4 speaker configuration and I was correct. I search the internet for hours seeking diagram of what wire is what. EVERYTHING I FOUND WAS WRONG!! When connecting any new or after-market radio into your expedition, Always assume you have a factory amp and ATTACH the BLUE Amp wire! If you plan on using your own amp for subs or extra speakers, just chain the wires to turn on all amps simultaneously.
Here are the correct wire combination:
2 factory harness plugs,
6 wire/pin plug. (no particular order)
| Wire 1: | POWER | WHITE/PURPLE strip |
| Wire 2: | SWITCHED +12 VOLT IGNITION | BLACK/PINK Strip |
| Wire 3: | GROUND | BLACK/GREEN strip |
| Wire 4: | Illumination | BLUE/BLACK strip |
| Wire 5: | Dimmer | n/a |
| Wire 6: | AMP Remote wire | BLUE |
16 wire/pin plug (no particular order)
| Wire 1: | FRONT Left Spkr + | GREEN |
| Wire 2: | FRONT Left Spkr - | WHITE/ORANGE Strip |
| Wire 3: | FRONT Right Spkr + | BROWN |
| Wire 4: | FRONT Right Spkr - | WHITE/Red Strip |
| Wire 5: | REAR Left Spkr + | YELLOW |
| Wire 6: | REAR Left Spkr - | BLUE/BLACK Strip |
| Wire 7: | REAR Right Spkr + | BLUE |
| Wire 8: | REAR Right Spkr - | PURPLE/WHITE Strip |
For the other 8 wires, I did not require them so I will not list them! I would imagine they are to control the 6 disc, cd changer and the Rear seat radio/headphone controls. You could use these wires to run a steering wheel radio control. Good luck on your install.
